Sir Sturgis of the Ozarks![]()
Sturgis's Story |
Written by our former Rescue Coordinator, Terri Coffey: "Sir Sturgis of the Ozarks" is a liver & tan 2 year old male who entered Rescue in mid December. He came from his second home to us because the owner didn’t have a fenced yard and seemed to prefer Labradors to Bloodhounds. Katie Cole picked him up from the owner in Sedro-Wooley where the people were looking at lab puppies in the pet store. They were looking for something to "breed" Katie brought Sturgis to meet Suzi Paine & I at an off leash dog park in Shoreline, Washington. There we met Jean Jones, her husband and two other dogs, Dudley the Basset and Smedley the Bloodhound. Jean took Sturgis home with her and here is what she had to say three weeks later: Update: Hi Terri! I thought I'd drop you a note to let you know how Sturgis is doing. What a wonderful dog!!! He has really fit in with the family - even the cat accepted him almost immediately and is now rubbing against his nose just like he does with Smedley. Sturgis and Smedley are having a ball. They play out in the yard while Dudley barks at them wanting them to run. He, of course, goes to the park frequently and has become friendly with Smedley and Dudley's best buddies and he has also made some friends of his own. His leash training took no time at all. I'm sure he just needed to be reminded because someone trained him at one time. He comes every time I call him and sits, lays, stays, etc. on command. Dudley is adjusting and I think even likes him a little as he's starting to play more with him. Anyway, I wanted to let you know how happy we all are here. This was a great match. Thanks again. Jean Jones Terri
